We have a logo!
After weeks of multitasking, we’ve finally designed a new logo. It incorporates elements that we feel really resonate with us. The compass rose, is pretty literal. It symbolizes our journey and our search for our place in the world. The armillary sphere is borrowed from the Portuguese flag for Nick’s heritage and ephemeral connection to the ocean. The rainbow represents a big part of both our identity as well and is irrevocably tied to why we’re sailing.
This adventure isn’t about being on permanent vacation, it’s about exploring how other people around the world live and shine a light on LGBTQ+ issues around the world as we travel. When we made the decision to sail around the world, we had one major apprehension. How could we, a gay couple, experience some of the most idyllic vistas in the world. How would we be received from country to country and would other boaters, more or less, be accepting? We’ve been told some horror stories of people visiting the Caribbean and facing major homophobia from both locals and cruising communities.
Despite these reservations, we’ve decided to take the plunge (pardon the pun) and find out for ourselves. We’ll shed some light about living in all the places we visit, we’ll meet with locals and small businesses, and hopefully meaningfully glean what it’s like to live in these different places both for straight and cic-gendered but also the experiences for the LGBTQ+ communities that live there. I can’t promise that what we capture will be the unequivocal “truth”, but it will be honest to our experience of a place. We hope you’ll follow us on our journey as we expand our knowledge of the world.
Neither of us are career graphic designers and both of us feel that as our story develops so will our logo and our representation of our story.
