Our Wrecked Electric Sailboat

Definitely click here and watch this! It's a great episode, it catches you up, and it helps us!

Let’s get the obvious out of the way, this sucked. I can’t quite think of a more elegant way to put that other than, it sucked. If you were hoping that I, Jake, would write words that were a bit more Shakespearean, I apologize for my one dollar word. My thirtieth birthday went off with a bang, literally, as our keel ran into some rocks. If you want the full details, watch this week’s video. This isn’t about what happened, instead, it’s about the emotions. Also, what comes next.

I’ve spent much of my life imagining my life was a tv show or movie. I would wonder what my montage moments would be, or what inciting incident would launch that week's episode. Then, in the genius move of our lives, we decided to document our adventure to share with all of you. Little did we think that our life would mimic my imagination and give us a dramatic season finale. We should have guessed it, we did love the drama of tv. Truly, I was just hoping for an exciting beginning to our adventure. Instead of my life literally ending up on the rocks. Irony, it’s a maiden that we all hate. Yeah, that about sums it up.

Seeing the pictures don’t quite sum up the feeling of the crunching sound you hear when the keel bangs against the rocks. It’s literally cringeworthy. I literally would cringe at the sound; it’s like hearing your life just crunch under nature. Oh what fun. But, thankfully, it wasn’t the end. Though we feared the worst when the boat was being taken out of the water, we were thankful to know that it didn’t sink and that our adventure would continue another day. But, that’s all for season two. So subscribe, because it’s going to be different and exciting and new! We do all love the new!

Since I intentionally brought up season two, we can talk about what comes next and the after effect of Ixion running into some rocks on our voyage south, on my thirtieth birthday. The biggest lesson was we need to slow the eff down. The whole point of changing how we live, is to literally change how we live. Except, the geniuses we are, we didn’t. We just changed what we were working too hard on. First it was the film industry and our careers, and then it was this boat. We put in an obscene amount of hours working, and never stopping. We just ran full speed ahead into this new life, and completely forgot what the hell we were doing it for.

So, moving forward, it’s not a lesson we will forget. We will slow down and smell the salt air, or epoxy, or boat related smell. We didn’t choose this life because we wanted to work 24/7 and never relax and enjoy it. We didn’t make these videos because we wanted to forget our art and just put them out over obligation. In the future, our we will spend more time working on our videos, and creating the art we want to create. We will spend more time living our lives and enjoying what we are doing. Boat work will not be front and center anymore. Instead it will just be one single facet of our lives. Also, I don’t want introspective blog posts. I want fun recounts of our adventures, or telling you all about our fun projects, or showing you gorgeous boats just to show you gorgeous boats! This should be fun for all parties! That includes you beautiful people reading the words on this screen!

So, let none of us ever forget why we are doing this. We are doing this to create art, share stories, and bring more inclusion into the world of sailing. It’s to embrace, and create more community. To produce videos, and designs that show our love for you all and what we do. So, while Ixion may have run aground, it will live to see another day, just like us! So, let’s do this sh*t and begin anew in season 2. (Didn’t mean to make that rhyme!)

Lastly, the part where we ask for support. When we decided to change our path, it wasn’t just to live a life of relaxation. It was to create a media company, sharing stories, knowledge, and design. To benefit the LGBTQ+ community in the cruising world. To achieve our goal as filmmakers and designers, we need support, like any independent business. So if you could subscribe to our YouTube channel, and Social Media accounts, and help spread the word! What we do is hard, time consuming, and we do it all for you! It’s free to share and subscribe. If you want to do more, there are links down below where you can assist us further, but there is no obligation to do so!

Feel free to comment below, and let us know what you think of all this! No negative comments though, we all have a enough of that! Also, feel free to share and let everyone you know learn about us!

With Love,

Jake & Nick
