It's My Blog, I Should Act Like It!

To be perfectly honest, I don’t know what has brought all of you here. Was it sailing, or just the sheer beauty of our faces. Perhaps it’s the fact that the LGBTQ+ sailing community is somewhat small and you all like connecting with other members. In the end, the reason doesn’t really matter, it’s that we are all here now. But, the thought has plagued me for quite some time, and it really shouldn’t.

When we started this channel, blog, website, etc. it wasn’t just about sailing for us. It was about telling our story, and the story of those we met along the way. Sailing was just one of the vehicles we would use to tell our story and hopefully make some kind of mark on the world. It is the medium in which we have met many of you, and have created amazing connections! But, by and large, sailing was the centerfold of our story. Hell, it’s even in the name, Sailing Ixion. That is where I get hung up over and over again. On a small niche, thinking it’s the only thing that defines all that we do.

Often, I find myself wanting to talk about something, but I hold my tongue and never move forward with it. It is the primary reason this blog has been so infrequent. Somewhere in my mind, I decided that I could only write about things sailing centric. Nothing else could grace the pages of our website except the things that centered around our life on the water, or on the boat. Which quite frankly is stupid. This is my blog, and I should act like it. Truly, I can write whatever I want to here. People won’t always want to read it, but that’s okay. No one likes one hundred percent of what any individual does. That’s just natural, I shouldn’t get bogged down on some weird belief that I can only do one thing.

So, starting from this day forward, our “Ships Log” will turn into my blog. It will center around topics important to us, sailing and non sailing related. Perhaps it’s because I want to interact with others on certain topics, (like my current obsession with WandaVision) or just life updates on Nick and myself. It will also include sailing, of course. That is the driving force that connected most of us together. I can’t promise you what any of it will be, or look like. (Though politics will be avoided, except in regards to human and civil rights.) I just hope you all come along for the new ride, and take part in it with me. I want to start conversations, and create connections. Which means this isn’t just a one way street, but a two way street! If you’ve read this far, thank you and I can’t wait to begin our new journey together!
